Boston Globe - April 13, 2007

A renowned wooden boatbuilder, and long time resident of Kennebunkport and Arundel, Maine died on April 6, 2007. He was born September 1st, 1961 and grew up in Manhasset and Point O'Woods, New York where he developed his lifelong passion for sailing and woodworking. After attending Kent School, University of Vermont and the Landing Boat School, Dave founded Bullhouse Boatworks. He specialized in recreating a class of Herreschoff E-boats and was a highly skilled craftsman in furniture as well. His close study of Herreschoff plans in the collection of the Hart Nautical Museum at MIT allowed him to build beautiful, classic wooden boats. He was at ease teaching his annual course in lofting to maritime architecture students at MIT, but was most at home on the water sailing through any kind of weather. Dave was an avid reader, a lover of intellectual ideas and brisk debate, and a proud board member of the Kennebunkport Public Library. He is survived by his long-time partner in life, Jane Schaller, his devoted parents Faith and Peter Corcoran of Jupiter, Florida, five siblings, their families and his extended family of friends whose lives he has touched. A private service was held in Cape Porpoise on Monday, April 9th and a celebration of his life and work will be held in the spring with a date still to be determined. In Dave's memory, donations can be made to the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library in Kennebunkport.
